1) Because it’s easier than going to Buenos Aires. And cheaper.
Admit it: You’ve always wanted to take your father to a swirling, heaving stadium where two local rivals are battling out for pride and points. As we know, there is no derby like the Buenos Aires SuperClásico between Boca Juniors and River Plate.
Well, you may not be able to take Dad down to Argentina, but you can go inside the SuperClásico with Argentina Fútbol Club, screening on Wednesday, July 20.
2) Because you don’t want to end up like Martin Hansson.
The Referee, which is screening on Saturday, July 23, is an incredibly emotional film about international official Martin Hansson. The Swedish ref is most (in)famous for missing the handball on Thierry Henry in France’s World Cup qualifier against Ireland. But in the film, you’ll see that his relationship with his children is equally heartbreaking.
3) Because even old curmudgeonly dads like to “Ooh” and “Aah.”
It’s become a tradition at K+S to feature a freestyle juggling troupe at every event. This year, the Red Bull Freestyle Team will be at Tribeca to entertain the masses with some of the coolest tricks around. Like these:
4) Because other than a movie theater, where else can you go with Pops and not have to talk?
No place in the modern world is as hindering to a conversation as a film. First of all, it’s dark, it’s loud, and talking outloud elicits annoying shushing from lapdog ladies and their duty-bound hubbies. Second, there’s hopefully a good tale to follow, which would only be interrupted by even the smallest amount of jabbering.
5) Because otherwise Jay DeMerit, the subject of Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story, will do this to you AND your old man:
