Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival partners with streetfootballworld

World’s premier soccer film festival to support and promote global leader in soccer for social change at events around the world throughout 2014

New York, NY (March 12, 2014) — Soccer is about more than 22 people kicking around a ball for 90 minutes. It’s about passion, joy, teamwork, community.
All of which would be good descriptions of the Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival (K+S) and our new Social Initiative partner, streetfootballworld (SFW).
K+S’s partnership with SFW, a network of organizations that use soccer as a tool to empower young people, formalizes a relationship that has seen K+S and SFW join forces to organize several community events in New York City, including a very successful #SoccerSocialHour in January 2014.
With today’s announcement, K+S will now fully promote and support SFW’s many charitable efforts. SFW will also take part in the K+S Soccer Film Festival New York 2014, presented by Budweiser, helping K+S organize and host an event on Thursday, April 10, dedicated to soccer for social change.

“The passion streetfootballworld brings to having an impact beyond the field aligns perfectly with K+S’s mission to celebrate and leverage the beautiful game’s power to unite people and energize communities,” K+S cofounder and director Greg Lalas said. “After the previous success of our events with SFW, we are very excited to grow our partnership this year. We can’t wait for April 10, in particular, a night that will encourage and promote soccer as an agent for social change.”

”Kicking+Screening understand, just as we do, that soccer is much more than a game,” said SFW’s USA Managing Director Mike Geddes. “Soccer is emerging as one of the most powerful forces to create social change and we’re delighted to partner with K+S to both support our work and bring that message to more people. We’re looking forward to sharing some of our incredible stories from around the world in New York on April 10.”

The K+S Social Initiative program was launched in 2009 and aimed at using the reach and connectivity of K+S’s festivals to promote and support soccer-related causes doing good around the world. Past K+S Social Initiatives include Grassroot SoccerCoaches Across Continents, the Bobby Moore Fund, and Soccer Without Borders.

K+S’s mission is to engage, connect, and inspire fans through the celebration and presentation of football/soccer culture. K+S festivals take place annually in New York and select cities around the globe each year.

streetfootballworld is the leading network in the field of soccer for social change, connecting close to 100 independent organizations from over 60 countries (including 15 in North America) that use soccer to engage young people and address critical issues like HIV/AIDS, education, peacebuilding, employability, gender equality and much more.
