In the Hands of the Gods is a coming-of-age road movie that follows five soccer freestylers from diverse backgrounds as they try to busk their way from London to Argentina in search of Diego Maradona. The young men--a devout Christian, a cheeky Liverpudlian, a failed soccer player, a pampered teenager, and an asylum-seeker from Somalia--on their pilgrimage. With no money for food, accommodation or travel, the five must hustle their way from London to Buenos Aires using only their soccer skills and their charm. The film movingly explores themes of identity, fulfillment, self-knowledge and self-expression in their quest to meet their demi-god. |
